June is Pride Month, and while Pride is all about celebrating, it’s also so much more than just Rainbow Flags and parades in the street (or meeting up at your favorite gayborhood bar). And let’s face it: companies and businesses tend to go about Pride all wrong. That’s where virtual Pride events with Kabloom come to save the day.

During Pride, companies need to go full-throttle with showing their love, appreciation, and support for the LGBTQ+ community. And with virtual and hybrid teams, comes the need for incredible virtual Pride events which are genuinely fun, a bit sassy, high-energy, HR-approved, and even educational.

Your LGBTQ+ employees and their allies deserve to celebrate Pride the way it’s meant to be celebrated: full of heart, soul, and meaning. And this Pride, Kabloom (hey, that’s us 👋) is pulling out all of the stops to offer virtual Pride events that will keep everyone entertained, while holding space.

If you want to throw an epic virtual Pride event for your team, here’s everything you need to know.

Why Pride (Actually) Matters

Pride Month is much more than just raising a glass and donning your favorite rainbow top, and it’s not only a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s also a time to learn LGBTQ+ history, hold space for those in the community, and for allies to show their support (and learn how to become even better allies).

Today, Pride is colorful, open, and loud. But those in the LGBTQ+ community understand the disturbing ways this community has been treated throughout the course of history.

The modern gay rights movement in the United States can be traced back to what’s known today as the Stonewall riots. In June 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, and yanked customers outside. This was the tipping point for the New York LGBTQ+ community, who felt they had been harassed by police for years. The neighborhood broke out in protests and riots that lasted for three days.

These protests are seen as catalysts for the modern movement for LGBTQ+ rights. Prior to Stonewall, almost everything about living as an openly LGBTQ person was illegal or looked down upon. In the 1950’s, homosexuality was listed as a “sociopathic personality disturbance,” and President Eisenhower signed an executive order banning those who were openly gay from working for the federal government.

After Stonewall, gay rights organizations were formed, and a year after the riots, the first Gay Pride parades were held.

Today, the area around the Stonewall Inn is a national monument

How Can I Give Pride The Attention It Deserves?

In the workplace, Pride is typically recognized in one way or another, but most of these efforts (especially when it comes to corporate teams) are surface level at best. Putting up Pride posters in the hallway and releasing a corporate statement doesn’t really sound like “celebrating & holding space” to us.

We think that Pride deserves tons of special attention, and that your LGBTQ+ team members deserve to truly celebrate themselves, and feel celebrated by the rest of your team. That’s why we came up with virtual Pride events that are unlike any other. If you want to really go all-out for your team, virtual Pride events are the way to go.

Will Virtual Pride Events Deliver the “Yas” Factor?

We know what you’re thinking: Pride events are tricky enough to manage in the workplace, nevertheless with a virtual team. But that’s where we come into the picture. We’re Kabloom, and we’re virtual party planning experts who have put everything we know into creating the perfect Pride roster.

Virtual Pride events deliver tons of fun and meaning to your virtual team, and they won’t be taking a backseat during these events. They’ll be belting their hearts out with LGBTQ Karaoke, will be star-struck watching a drag queen “get into face,” and will learn a ton with Pride Trivia + History.

So yes, our virtual Pride events are next-level, will deliver that “wow” factor, and of course, are designed to be respectable for the workplace (our drag queens and other facilitators know to keep things HR-approved). We guarantee you, your team will be picking their jaws up off the floor when they log online for the day and get blown away by a virtual drag show.

“Virtual Drag Show?” Tell Me More.

Since Pride deserves the special treatment, we’ve come up with some pretty special virtual Pride events this year. Here are our a-la-carte offerings for virtual Pride events:

  • Drag Bingo: Definitely not your nana’s Bingo. Like regular Bingo, but with way more sass and way bigger eyelashes.
  • Drag Queen Trivia: Like the regular trivia you play in the pub, only yassified.
  • Get in Face with… : Have you ever wondered how a drag queen transformed into the magnificent queen that she is? Your team will go behind-the-scenes as a drag queen gets ready. There will be stories and Q&A.
  • Virtual Drag Show: Drag queens will work it in a virtual drag show that will transport you directly to the club.
  • Drag Kings: Drag queens aren’t the only gender-bending performers. Drag kings will take the stage, and they’re sure to be a hit with their boyish charm.
  • Drinks & Drag (DIY cocktails + drag): A Pride twist on our DIY cocktail workshop, co-hosted by a drag queen. A mixologist will lead your team through creating the perfect Pride cocktail, before you all kick back and enjoy a drag performance.
  • LGBTQ Karaoke: Virtual karaoke is all the rage (at least, in our books), and this version includes our special Pride Songbook, with musical selections chosen with Pride in mind. Your team will go Gaga.
  • Pride Party: Queer history, trivia, and a drag show? Sounds like the best triple threat we’ve ever heard of.

What if I Want It All?

If you’re excited by a bunch of our Pride events and don’t know how to choose just one, don’t worry: you don’t have to. We’re also offering Pride Fest, which is a Pride festival-style event that is sure to blow everyone away.

Pride Fest is a multi-experience event, where your team members get to choose their own adventure. It follows our Party in a Box format, where multiple events happen at the same time. For Pride Fest, you can combine 10 of our Pride offerings in an experience that is either 2 hours or 75-minutes.

Pride Fest is perfect for larger teams (think between 50-ish and 1,000 fabulous people).
