Latinx, Hispanic, Chicano?

Latino/latinx/latine describes any person with ancestry in Latin America.

This definition usually includes Portuguese-speaking Brazil and French-speaking Haiti, but excludes Spain.

Describes ethnicity (cultural identity), not race.

Hispanic refers to any of the peoples in the Americas and Spain who speak Spanish or are descended from Spanish-speaking communities.

Describes ethnicity (cultural identity), not race.

Chicano describes someone who is native of, or descends from, Mexico and who lives in the United States.

Mexican Americans have taken the term Chicano, previously considered a pejorative word, and used it to empower themselves.
